Beardsley Elementary School: A Rich History of Service and Learning

Beardsley Elementary School was originally built in 1903 as a ten-room brick structure, costing $60,000. It opened its doors to 229 boys and 182 girls. Initially named Huntington Road School, it was renamed in 1922 after a successful petition by the PTA to honor James Beardsley, who had generously donated land to the city.

In 1938, a three-alarm fire devastated the school. It was later rebuilt and expanded with support from a WPA grant. During World War II, the school even served as the area’s bomb shelter. In the 1960s, lunch facilities were added, and Beardsley became a Pre-K through Grade 6 school.

By the mid-1990s, the school had grown to include over 30 teachers and more than 650 students. Today, Beardsley Elementary serves over 330 students from diverse ethnic backgrounds. Together with their dedicated teachers and supportive families, they make Beardsley a vibrant and welcoming place to learn and grow.
